If you don't think they sound interesting, then they won't be. To help cut through all the promotional hype and advertising shenanigans, let me tell you everything you need to know about audio commentaries. But in general, it has become a gimmick that is played up as a big deal even though it will only be worthwhile for a small percentage of viewers. For example, the "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" Criterion edition comes with commentary from the man himself, Hunter S. Once in a while, something fun might come out of this. Anniversary editions of older films with new commentaries are cropping up every week. "Panic Room" is already out on DVD, but it is being re-released as a three-disc set, replete with a whole new set of commentaries by actors, writers and director David Fincher. What was once a trivial but fun little feature has now become a selling point that apparently warrants countless re-releases of the same films.

Now that I've given you a good idea of the movie, you can be duly mystified, as I was, to discover the DVD comes with no less than five different audio commentary tracks.
